Irish rider Liam Chawke undergoes surgery in 'first step' on 'long road ahead' after Manx Grand Prix crash
Republic of Ireland rider Liam Chawke has undergone surgery following a crash at the Manx Grand Prix in what his team says is the “first step” on a “long road ahead”.
Chawke, riding a Jack Reid Cars/KMR Kawasaki prepared by Ryan Farquhar, crashed at the notorious Black Dub in Monday’s Junior Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man.

The race was red-flagged and he was initially treated at Noble’s Hospital in Douglas on the island before being flown to Aintree University Hospital with back injuries.
On Thursday, a social media update from Chawkie Racing said: “Liam has now had surgery, and thankfully it has gone well. He is in a lot less pain than he has been over the last few days, which is a huge relief.
“This is only the first step in Liam’s recovery, and there is still a long road ahead, but for now we are taking things one step at a time as we wait to hear more.
“We truly appreciate all the messages, support and well wishes for Liam and the family.
“Please understand that we, especially Liam will not be able to respond to everyone at the moment.
“Liam is our priority and all our focus is on supporting him through his recovery.
“Thank you all for your continued love and support.”
