Coleraine announce contract extensions for goalkeeper and long-serving defender

Coleraine have confirmed that two players have agreed contract extensions at The Showgrounds.

The first is long-serving defender Lyndon Kane who has put pen-to-paper on a deal until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, with the club holding the potential of triggering another year.

Kane, who celebrated his testimonial during the 2023/24 campaign, has amassed almost 400 appearances to date for his boyhood club and has lifted the Irish Cup and League Cup with the Bannsiders.

Speaking about the full back’s new deal, Coleraine boss Ruaidhri Higgins said: “Lyndon’s form this season has been at a very high level.

“He’s gone into the final year of his contract and it was important that we extended it because he’s very highly thought of on and off the pitch here.

“He has shown an unbelievable loyalty to Coleraine, this is his club and he can relate to every single one of our supporters in the stands. It’s really important that we have that identity.

“Lyndon leads the way in that regard and I think he is a great influence on our younger local players.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Lewis Webb has also inked fresh terms on a three-year deal.

The custodian, who hails from Newport in Wales, joined the Bannsiders in October last year and was part of the first-team squad which lifted the Irish Cup last season.

A former Swansea City trainee, the 25-year-old has started all of Coleraine’s Premiership fixtures so far this term, keeping three clean sheets and producing a number of fine saves in the process.

Higgins added: “In goalkeeping terms, Lewis is a young goalkeeper and he’s had to be extremely patient since he came here.

“However, at no point did his standards or his levels in training drop whenever he wasn’t in the team.

“It shows in his performances how well he’s trained, he’s been extremely consistent but the challenge is now to maintain that consistency because he’s talented and has all the attributes.

“He’s a brilliant lad to have at the club and we’re delighted that he’s committed his future here.”
