Former Cliftonville and Glentoran star makes third-tier transfer while ex-Glenavon striker also on the move

Former Cliftonville and Glentoran winger Jamie McDonagh has joined Premier Intermediate League outfit Lisburn Distillery.

McDonagh departed Portadown for Oxford Sunnyside during the summer after spending the latter part of last season on loan at Championship winners Bangor, making six league appearances for Lee Feeney’s side.

The 29-year-old registered five league appearances for Sunnyside this term and also provided four assists in two Bob Radcliffe Cup outings, but hasn’t featured since early-November.

He has now completed a move to Distillery, who are managed by Lee Forsythe, and could make his debut in Saturday’s trip to Strabane Athletic.

McDonagh, who previously spent time on the books of Sheffield United and enjoyed loan spells with Glenavon and Newry City, shone during the early stages of his stint at Cliftonville and helped Paddy McLaughlin’s side lift the 2021/22 BetMcLean Cup crown.

He has also been on the books of Greenock Morton, Sligo Rovers and Derry City.

It has already been a busy January for Oxford Sunnyside, who announced four new arrivals on Thursday, including former Glentoran and Linfield striker Michael O’Connor from Glenavon.

The Lurgan Blues issued a statement last month saying O’Connor had “decided to take time away from football for personal reasons”.

He has now joined brother Ciaran O’Connor at third-tier Sunnyside after his arrival was confirmed alongside James McCormack, Dale Malone and Odhran Smyth.

The club posted: “Striker Michael O’Connor is a proven top operator at Premiership level and most recently played for Glenavon. Michael will undoubtedly add another dimension to our attack.”
