Irish League double record-holder plans "valuable time with his family" before "next step"

Crusaders legend Jordan Owens “will now spend some valuable time with his family before deciding on the next step” as the Seaview outfit confirmed a number of summer changes.

Owens holds club records for most appearances and goals thanks to finding the net 255 times over 731 games with the Crues.

After over two decades on the books of the Irish League outfit, Owens plans on a step back before moving forward.

A Crusaders statement across social media has confirmed that “Jordan Owens, who recently announced his retirement from playing, will now spend some valuable time with his family before deciding on the next step in his career”.

The announcement was celebrated by former team-mate and manager Declan Caddell, who highlighted Owens’ “unwavering service, professionalism and commitment to the club” as “an outstanding servant to Crusaders Football Club both on and off the pitch”.

The Crues, now entering a third season under Caddell’s management having escaped Premiership relegation via the play-offs, also confirmed some backroom changes.

Ricky McCann, a key part of the Northern Ireland international set-up since 2009, will come on board to bolster the areas of sports science and strength & conditioning.

Two former Crues players, Davy Rainey and Stevie Livingstone, have now left the Seaview backroom staff – with Caddell confirming “sincere thanks to both men for their hard work, loyalty and support over the past two years”.
