WATCH: SuperCupNI is a brilliant 'showcase' for newcomers Newell Academy
Conor Loughrey of Newell Academy says this week’s SuperCupNI tournament is a brilliant “showcase” for his players to shine on the big stage.
The Co Londonderry-based side made their debut in the competition on Monday – just ten years after the club was formed.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go their way as they were beaten 3-0 by last year’s runners-up Linfield in the Minor Section at the Coleraine Showgrounds.
The Blues picked up the opening group game victory as Caodhan Moore netted in the first half, before Louis Campbell bagged a brace after the restart.
The result was somewhat harsh on Newell who more than certainly played their part but they failed to breach the Linfield goal.
Loughrey, who is Head of the Academy at Newell, believes Linfield more than deserved their win on the day.
He further outlined how the SuperCupNI is a great environment for Newell to compete in and what they are hoping to achieve from the week.
